Certifications and Further Notarial Services

Notary stamps – Notary Dr. Ron Baer, Berlin

In addition to notarisations, we carry out numerous further notarial acts. Signature certifications, affidavits and other notarial confirmations are part of our daily practice.

Signature Certifications

In a signature certification, the notary confirms the authenticity of your signature. This is frequently required for:

  • Commercial register filings and filings with similar registers such as the register of associations, cooperatives register, partnership register or company register
  • Land Registry declarations (e.g. deletion consents)
  • Powers of attorney and declarations for public authorities

Certifications of all filings with the commercial, companies, cooperatives, partnership and associations register can also be carried out online via video conference.

Certified Copies

We certify copies and reproductions of documents where a certified copy is required – for example of diplomas, certificates or other important documents.

Apostille

An apostille may be required for the use of notarial documents abroad. An apostille is a kind of „certification of the certification", confirming the authenticity of the notarial document. Ideally, clarify in advance with the foreign authority to which the document is to be submitted whether an apostille is required. You can check whether the relevant state has acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention in this overview by the German Notarial Institute (DNotI). On request, we can obtain an apostille for our documents (notary fee: 25.00 € plus VAT). Alternatively, you may obtain the apostille yourself; the contact details are:

Landgericht Berlin II – Littenstraße office
(Registry for Legalisations and Apostilles)
Littenstraße 12–17
10179 Berlin
Phone: 030 9023-0
Fax: 030 9023-2223

For Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy and Austria, neither an apostille nor a legalisation is required due to bilateral agreements. For states that have not acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention, a legalisation is generally required. Please contact the Landgericht at the above details and/or the embassy of the relevant country.

Affidavits

In certain cases, a statutory declaration (eidesstattliche Versicherung) before a notary is required, for example in connection with applications for certificates of inheritance or to substantiate certain facts.

Further Notarial Acts

  • Protests of bills of exchange and cheques
  • Drawings and lotteries

Most certifications require only a short appointment. Please bring a valid identity card or passport and the document to be certified.

Do you need a certification or another notarial service? Submit the details directly via the appropriate data sheet – we can often offer you an appointment at short notice.
